Summary: Postnuke module

Initial Comment:
A great way of broadening the appeal of xmltv would be
to release a postnuke module.

This module would allow people to present users with
their own (custom ?) TV guide on the postnuke cms.

closing as it's outside the scope of this project.
nevertheless it is a good idea and there are legitimate data sources

I was aware of such a legitimate use, but i think that
someone that runs a home web server usually has the skills
to write such a module, or could use one of the existing
xmltv2html converters.

also, it's was not my intention to forbid anything (nor can
it be done)... it was more of a heads-up.

as for the warnings... in my experience many people don't
read them, and only a few of the rest care about them.

Well, that clinches it... like the Betamax decision if there
is a non-infrindging use so be it.

If someone does write a module, I would recommend a few
stern warnings in the setup about checking legality before
creating a publically available web site.

i run an internal web server for my family. a postnuke module
might be interesting in that context. please don't forbid such a
project.

i think the situation is a bit tricky...

i'm not strictly against it, but i think a ready-to-use
postnuke module would give copyright-unsavy users the
impression that the data is freely reusable. giving the
popularity of *nuke sites that could bring negative
attention towards the xmltv project.

i'm not aware of any site that allows free redistribution of
tv listings, but honestly i think it would be very unlikely:
if a site isn't writing it's own data it's probably buying
it somewhere else.

*DOH* You're right.. I should have mentioned that too.. I'm
usually the one who brings that up!

Postnuke is a web groupware app of course.

Is there concensus the enchancement should be denied?

Are there some data sources that allow redistribution?

Please note that if you republish the xmltv data grabbed
from another site you are most likely breaking copyright
laws. It's also usually easy to recognize the parent site
from the programmes descriptions.

sounds like an interesting project.

Only problem is someone needs the "itch to scratch" to do
it. (Personally, I just use XMLTV for tv_check reports)

If someone would write such a module, I don't think there
would be any problem including it in the XMLTV distribution.
