With the tv_grab_sd_json grabber recently added to cvs I thought I would
mention the history of SD and conflicts of interest...

I am currently President of Schedules Direct.

Schedules Direct was formed in 2007 by a number of open source project
leaders (myself included), when the data source for tv_grab_na_dd
announced it was was shutting down. We purchased the same data creating
a seamless transition. We have a mission of providing support for OSS
applications including a high quality, stable, supported, data source.

SD is registered as a non-profit corporation in Washington state. We
tried for and didn't receive US IRS 501c(4) non-profit status. We pay
taxes and donations (which we no longer accept) are not tax deductible.

Membership fees pay for guide data, financial support for open source
projects (often convention booths, but sometimes hardware), servers, and
overhead. A few folks are paid a reasonable amount to maintain the
service part-time.

SD owns the XMLTV.ORG domain, so if I get hit by a bus, OSS leaders
still control it.

Robert
