Discussion:
[Xmltv-devel] XMLTV Validator needs a new maintainer

The XMLTV Validator that I run at

http://www.xmltv.se/validator/

recently stopped working due to changes on the machine that hosts it.
The machine is old and I am going to retire it instead of fixing it.

I don't have the time to set up the validation on a new machine. Could
someone else run it instead?

The code for the validator is available at

http://git.holmlund.se/cgi-bin/gitweb.cgi?p=xmltv-tester.git;a=summary

It is really just a (very ugly) wrapper around grab/test_grabbers.

I will be removing the validator output in a few days since it is not
updated correctly anyway.

About a year ago I set up a copy of the validator to test xmltv (nightly,
release and my packages) on different versions of Debian:

http://debian.crustynet.org.uk/~xmltv-tester/

It looks like it could do with a bit of maintenance. I've not looked at it
for a while and bits seem to have broken, but that shouldn't be too
difficult to fix. I'd be happy to keep it running as the "official"
validator - at which point I'd put in a bit of automatic monitoring to make
sure it keeps working.

Looks like there are a couple of grabbers which need test account details as
well, which I'll need to get set up.

I'm at the Debian developer's conference again next week, so I should have a
bit of time available to get the validator back up and running (funnily
enough it was last year's DebConf when I originally set it up).

Thanks Chris...

http://wiki.xmltv.org/index.php/MediaWiki:Sidebar is where the links
are set. I'm not sure exactly where you'll want it to point.

Feel free to add more.

That page is protected, but you may have access to change it. Let me
know if you don't.

I would appreciate if you could take over as "official validator"

There are three grabbers that I add extra configuration to apart from
test.conf in CVS: na_dd, eu_epgdata and combiner. na_dd and eu_epgdata
need test accounts. You should contact Robert Eden and Michael Haas to
get your own test accounts. You can generate your own test.conf for
tv_grab_combiner. It contains absolute paths, and therefore the
test.conf is useless in CVS.

Chris,

Hope you're enjoying NYC :) I'm watching the live stream of the SIP
Witch talk as I write this...

Just thought I'd point out the nightly sid validator [1] suddenly
stopped updating on Sunday (2010-08-01).

Cheers,
Nick

It's been great so far.. managed to get quite a bit done already.

You (and others) might want to take a look at some of the talks on Friday
afternoon - it's the multimedia track (including a workshop about MythTV).

Yeah, I got halfway through fixing everything before being grabbed for
something else. I've spent a bit more time on it today, and I'm hoping that
tonight's run should work OK. Assuming it does, I'll update the wiki
tomorrow and link through to it.

I'll probably link to the squeeze tester, as there's a chance the sid one
might break due to breakage in dependencies in sid, whereas there's less
chance of this happening in squeeze.

I was thinking of hacking the scripts to send e-mail when new failures
occur. Would anyone else be interested in such mails? I guess we could set
up a new mailing list on SF to send them to (which has the added bonus of
archiving).

Excellent - hope you survived Coney Island and enjoy the remainder of
the conference.

Thanks for the heads up - I hadn't looked that far ahead when you
posted this. I've posted a reminder to the mythtv-users list - sounds
like it could be an interesting afternoon of talks.

Very many thanks for updating the report to cover sid|squeeze|lenny,
and nightly|release|packaged. That's a very useful matrix of tests to
have.

I've noticed broken Debian/XMLTV links in the header of the following reports:

http://debian.crustynet.org.uk/~xmltv-tester/sid/nightly/
http://debian.crustynet.org.uk/~xmltv-tester/sid/package/
http://debian.crustynet.org.uk/~xmltv-tester/lenny/nightly/
http://debian.crustynet.org.uk/~xmltv-tester/lenny/package/
http://debian.crustynet.org.uk/~xmltv-tester/lenny/release/

The URLs pointing to the Debian releases are missing "~xmltv-tester/"
in their paths (e.g. http://debian.crustynet.org.uk/sid), and the URLs
for the XMLTV releases are missing the Debian release path (e.g.
http://debian.crustynet.org.uk/~xmltv-tester/nightly) in theirs.

I'd certainly be interested. I don't test the release build daily, so
usually only notice any problems with the current release version on
the xmltv-users or mythtv-users lists if something breaks on the RT
server but doesn't affect CVS HEAD. The Radio Times service is
experiencing issues at the moment which was brought to my attention
very quickly as it also fails in the nightly builds, and I've already
tweaked CVS slightly as a result (now just waiting for the listings to
reappear on the RT server).

Cheers,
Nick
